At Northwest Martial Arts we emphasize attitudes and behaviors that kids can apply to everyday life. Our classes inspire confidence, determination and achievement that will carry into adulthood.

Our primary focus is character development. Martial art skills are very useful and fun to practice, but our goal is to help children become responsible, successful and happy adults. We view martial arts as a vehicle for kids to learn about life; how to deal with challenges, overcome obstacles, and how to make better choices.  To do this we teach a mix of skills from Aikido, Jujutsu and Karate, focusing on physical fitness, coordination, basic self-defense skills and fun. We currently offer classes to kids ages 7 to 13.
Instructors

Brent Yamamoto

Brent is NWMA's head kids instructor. Brent has a diverse martial arts background in addition to several years experience working with children.  He has based our kids' curriculum on character building and cross-training principles. He is first aid and CPR certified.

Clifton Barnes
Clifton holds a second degree black belt (Nidan) in Shinsenka-ryu Jujutsu. Clifton's enthusiasm for Jujutsu is inspiring, and he is in his element sharing the technical intricacies of this art.

Austin Eckertson
Austin has a diverse martial arts background and currently holds an Ikkyu in Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido. He trains under Koichi Kashiwaya Sensei as an uchi-deshi.

Randy Thompson
Randy holds a second degree black belt (Nidan) in Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido. In addition to being a talented martial artist, he is a teacher by profession and brings these skills to NWMA's kids program. Randy recently completed the uchi-deshi program training directly under Koichi Kashiwaya Sensei.  He is currently on a hiatus with his family in Colorado, but he'll be back!

Felicia Cain
Felicia holds 2nd degree black belt (Nidan) and Shoden Menkyo in Shinsenka-ryu Jujutsu. She began training in Jujutsu at the age of 17. In addition to Jujutsu, she has also trained in Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido and Kei Shin Kan Karate. Felicia is currently stationed in Morocco with the Peace Corps, but we look forward to her return as one of our kids' class instructors.
